2017 Summer Youth Empowerment Symposium

 

The goal of the Youth Ambassadors project is to employ our young people to work on creative community

projects to develop their potential, build leadership, and

strengthen their sense of purpose and role within

M.O.M.I.E's. As youth ambassadors, we are a dynamic,

creative, and passionate group of young people who have

spent our core developmental years at M.O.M.I.E's. For

the past 6 years, we have been provided with an end of

summer project that helps to uplift our community.

This Summer our project centered on the topics of self-empowerment and entrepreneurship. Our goal for this symposium is to inform and engage the entire family with relevant topics and fun activities. 

Music Video for 23 Proud written by Tyrese Rowe, Ania Benjamin & Jabari Yarbrough. This project touches on article 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which take a look at fair and equal work for employees . 

A Digital Story by Gabriella Barnes, Kamau Stith, and Christian Stanton.This project touches on article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which takes a look at unlawful arrest and police brutality . 

Video by Zaria Stith, Chandler Brossard, Symone Brooks & Jamaal Dukes. This project touches on article 17 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which takes a look at Homelessness  in the Washington, DC Area. 

A Photo Essay for 23 by Jerra Holdip, King & Emperor Campbell, Deshawna Morris, Josel Flores, Luis Vivas & Tanaysha  Prillerman. This project touches on article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which touches on  adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing. 

Humanize Not Militarize Human Rights Project

A Video by Lionel Hawkins, Jordan Ford, Jalaw Benjamin and Empress Campbell . Youth express their thoughts on the current state of gun violence in the community and their plans to combat it. 

A Video by Luz Johnson, Immanuel Marshall, George Ford  and  Kwameed Jeter. Youth express their thoughts on the effectiveness of community policing and community involvment in the decrease of community crime.

A Video by Calia Lyles, Dontae Pearson, Demia Gist and Aniya Hamilton. Youth express how they feel in attending school with the presence of metal detectors and security guards. Their hope is to promote a more humanized school community.
